I've lived here for 6 years and have heard constantly of how good Moonlite is, however, I was never taken there to eat. Well we found Moonlite by accident a few days ago and decided to stop in and give it a try. What a wonderful surprise it was! We enjoyed the atmosphere, the wonderful service but most of all the delicious food, from meats to desserts, it was the best BBQ I've EVER eaten, and I've eaten a lot! It was so good we went back the very next night and had the same wonderful experience again. Thank you for being such an asset to Owensboro and the surrounding communities.

WOW! When I visited my Dad and Step Mom from Vrmont we went to your restraunt for dinner. What a delicious meal. Southern cooking at its best. Now, when I want to send them a treat for a holiday, anniversary, birthday and now Father's Day I think of how deliciuos that meal was. They love eating there and my mouth just waters thinking about the meal I had. When I visit again this year we are definitely heading there for a long awaited tasty treat. Thanks,

My wife and I came down to Kentucky back in July of 96 to visit my father. He grew up there in Owensboro and returned after 35 years. Since we were all hungry and I remember as a kid going down to Stanley, to a place called Dales BBQ, I was in the mood for Mutton, as ya know that just doesn't happen in NY. So he suggested we go to the Moonlite, him and his wife Helen frequented the place, and said it was awesome. Well to make a long story short, I ate and ate till I was so stuffed, and even took more home with us, lol. You all have a great establishment and wonderful atmosphere. The food is tremendous and I want to come back for more. Thank you for the great moment we had while there, we'll make it back soon. Only this time we'll be bringing our lil girl Amalia Nicolette Conrey along :) Best wishes and continued success,

We came to Kentucky last week to help some friends move. As a treat they took us all out to dinner at your excellent restaurant. I grew up on barbecue, but I have to say yours is THE BEST! Since I got back home I have prepared several things out of your cook book & they are all delicious. Hats off to your awesome food & friendly atmosphere. You have me wishing I were coming to Kentucy again soon. THANKS for a great experience!

We live about 70 miles from Owensboro, and we love not just the BBQ but all the food and deserts. The Burgoo is out of this world. We go to Moonlite with the entire family and usually friends along, about 5 or 6 times a year. About 5 or 6 times a year my son and I will drive to Moonlite and get containers of food to go and bring it back home to invite friends over. The food is packaged very well because when we get back home the food good and warm, ready to eat. I wish you would build one here in our town !!!

I'm a truck driver and recently had a pickup in your town. When I asked two locals if there was any good BBQ in town, they looked at each other, smiled, and said in unison, "Moonlite". I was very pleased with my lunch buffet and have to say that my first experience with BBQ mutton was great. The burgoo was on the edge of my spiciness scale, but I ate it anyway and enjoyed it. The banana pudding wasn't as good as Grandma made, but it was real close. When I returned to work today, I volunteered to go to Owensboro any time they want to send me. When I return, I hope you have a spot saved for me there!

My husband and I love Moonlite. Every year we look forward to celebrating our anniversary and birthdays( which are a week apart) at Moonlite. We are foster parents and don't get away from our 8 children often, but when we do go out it is always across the border to Moonlite. Once in a while our children get lucky and get to eat at Moonlite also, but we do like our special time together there. Pappy and Catherine are sadly missed now when we come. Looking forward to the trip for our Birthdays this weekend. Thanks for the best BBQ in the tri-state!!!!!!

A co-worker and I were just disgussing how we both had eaten at Moonlight many years before. Myself while I was
helping our survey crew and staying at Executive Inn in Owensboro MANY years ago. My co-worker and I both agreed
that Moonlight was and is the best barbeque we've had.
I just found your web site and thought I'd leave this
submittal.

We love to visit the Moonlite BBQ whenever we have visitors from outside the Kentuciana area. They ALWAYS rave about the quality of the buffet! As one of the spokesmen for the Roadfood.Com website that shares 'foodie' information with over 26,000 web-members, we are proud to recommend a stop at the Moonlite to anyone passing near the Owensboro area. This time we will be in Henderson KY for the W C Handy Blues and BBQ festival Friday June 17th...But dinner will be at the Moonlite !!

I miss having mutton and burgoo on a regular basis. I grew up in Owensboro, but went into the Air Force in 1964. Since then, the only time I get Mutton is when we visit my brother, Judge Jeff Taylor. I have been around the world and all around the country, and there is no substitute for Barbeque from Owensboro. I graduated from DCHS is 1964, and I spread the word everywhere I go. You ain't had real barbeque until you've been to Owensboro, Ky.

I lived in Owensboro in 1983-84. The buffet at Moonlite Bar-B-Q was one of my favorite places to stay a while. I just found a local Brunswick stew here in Florida that is not sweet. It reminds me of the Kentucky Burgoo from Moonlite. Some good things stay with you.

My father and I come to Owensboro each year now to attend the BBQ Festival on Mothers Day weekend. He was raised in Owensboro in the 50's and remembered this little BBQ place he and my Mother had gone to as teenagers. On our first trip up there we drove by and was he surprised. He went there as a teen when there were only a few places to sit. We had already eaten that day so I didn't get the chance to eat there on that trip and made the comment that we should plan to the next year. We left 2 hours earlier the next year from Memphis just to go to the buffet. What a great layout of food. Being the former head chef of a local BBQ team, I feel I'm pretty well versed in how BBQ should taste. Believe me when I say you folks have got it. EVERYTHING was good. Keep up the great work and we'll see you in May.

Moved to AZ 25 years ago; come back to see the trees change and to EAT BBQ MUTTON at the Moonlite!! This past Oct (2004) we toured from Louisville to Evansville to Knoxville (via Owensboro)to Lexington back to Louisville. We sampled pulled pork (no one had mutton except you know who) We had Chicago style; Texas Style, Louisiana Style, Kentucky Style and Tennesse Style. We enjoyed the all (execpt Texas Style, is that really BBQ?) any way Moonlite is THE BEST. Moonlite is the perfect combination of sticky sweet Indidan style and dry spicy Tennesse style and only Moonlite has the mutton mutton mutton. We love you Moonlite.

Our family are long time Moonlight ham fans. Your friend, and ours, Mr. Glen Barnes first hooked my dad up with your wonderful hams. Two years ago I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Ownesboro specifically to eat at your restaurant, and did we eat! What a treat to be able to try all of your excellent fare! This year, my daughters will get to carry on a third generation of holiday tradition for us by ordering the Moonlight hams. I was born and raised in Owensboro, we moved to Phoenix in 1987 when my husband got a job with America West Airlines. I tell the people here about the best bar-b-que ever is Moonlight. Of course, they have no idea why we would eat sheep, they are for grazing and for there wool. I wish y'all had a place here I really miss the good food from home. I come home in the summer and always make it down for some chopped mutton and the best potato salad in the world.

We have visited your place many times in the past and the best thing that happened one time was when we drove to Owensboro and brought our granddaughter with us. After we ate and started home, Jessica our granddaughter said " we drove down here just to eat". We told her yes because we love to eat their Bar-B-Que. You can imagine what she said after that. Yes I can't believe you. It was a wonderful meal.

Many years ago (during the early '70s)I traveled to Owensboro five to six times per year. My visit's to Owensboro ended when I was relocated with my Job from Hicksville,New York to Providence,Rhode Island. On the majority of my Owensboro visits General Electric personnel always took me to the Moonlight. I have traveled the world extensively and must complement you. . . Your Country Ham and Mutton are some of "the finest I have ever had." My trips to Owensboro have been long gone but the "fond memories" of the wonderful people at the General Electric Plant and and "mouth watering" Barbecue served at the "Moonlight" will linger on in my memory forever. Fortunately I have a friend of mine here in south Florida who played for the Miami Dolphin's (now Retired) who hails from Owensboro. He has just returned and informed me that he has a special treat for me that is guaranteed to rekindle the juices in my pallet. Good luck and thanks for the wonderful memories. We were both born and raised in Owensboro and our families still live there. We try to hit Moonlite every time we are in to to visit and usually stop by on the way out of town to bring some burgoo, beef or mutton home with us. Having lived in Tennessee for 6 years now, I can tell you that compared to back home in Owensboro, folks here have no idea what good BBQ is!

Hi, I was born and raised in Owensboro. Everytime I come home to visit my family, I stop by your restaurant. I've been living in Minnesota for the past 22 years and I never forget the taste of good mutton. Northerners don't really know what mutton is. This time I plan to come to your restaurant around the Thanksgiving holiday and have a meal (your buffet)and I also will be bringing family members. I was born in Owensboro (1935) My dad was Havey Conrey and mother is Maurine Johnson of Thruston. Their home at that time was on Geary Court. Dad worked at Mills Drug Store early on. The Mills Family were good people. My uncles, Tommy Conrey and Jerome Conrey lived there until their death. Jerome was head of the circulation dept. at the Owensboro Inquirer. My husband and I drove to Owensboro 2 years ago and ate at the Moonlite 2-3 times that week. I grew up hearing the words "Moonlight BBQ" so had to try it as an adult. Wonderful..we'll be back asap!!

I found my way to Moonlite back in the late 80's. I ventured in and had the BEST BBQ I ever laid my tongue on. In the mid 90's, on business, I was blessed to be in Owensboro and once again lay my tongue upon such wondrous BBQ that I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. I have been all over the South, eaten at many Q joints and Moonlite is, and shall always be my absolute FAVORITE.

I'm just reviewing your web site and I have downloaded some recipes to try. You were not in business when I was last in Owensboro, 1961, so your Inn is new to me. Being in the BBQ Baby Back Rib, Whole Pig Roasting, Chicken and Sausage catering with my mobil trailer, wood cooking only, I guess it is time for me to return and spend time at the Moonlite and your Mutton "Q". Until I do I'll do the "Online" Store ordering. Mutton was a mainstay during WWII at our home in New Jersey. About the only other place I know of to dine on mutton is at Kean's English Chop House in New York City.

We have eight dependant children, so it is difficult to get a sitter, but when we do that is our favorite place to go alone. You have the BEST ribs and burgoo I have ever had. We drive to Owensboro just to eat at Moonlite. We always make sure we are very hungry. You also have one item on the salad bar that brings back a lot of memories for me. My aunt, Katherine Ruth always would bring the peanut covered bananas to family get togethers and I just loved them. I tried making them one time but they didn't taste like her's or yours. Thank you for your fine food.

While I was in the Army for 30 years, I always looked forward to the time that I could return home to Owensboro. One of my first stops in town would always be the Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn so that I could surround my taste buds in Moonlite's delicious mutton. Now I am living in Atlantic City, and I still dream of going to Owensboro and having me a mutton feast. Thanks for being there, Darrell R. Brown, Sergeant Major, (US Army, Retired).

I was lucky to grow up in Owensboro. My parents are both buried there. It is what I return to in memory when warmer times and fond experiences haunt. Becoming an author and fulfilling the dream of world travel, having a life of great diversity and wide experience, it is strange that three things of childhood/yound adulthood haunt: the Derby, Kentucky autumns, and family events at the Moonlite. I was so pleased to find this guestbook just to note a fond thank you for all the wonderful meals and happy days this most special establishment provided. I envy the generations that now savor your joy and delicious meals. Wishing your staff all continued success. Though it has been decades, I still look forward to the hope of one last visit...someday.

In 1969, my father-in-law William Kimbley took his new daughter-in-law (me) to eat mutton (for the first time.) We went to the Moonlite, which already had a reputation for serving Owensboro's best Bar-B-Q. Well I was hooked! At the end of the week, my husband Larry and I went back to Georgia, where Larry was in college. I found out that I was pregnant, and my first symptom was that I woke up in the middle of the night craving MOONLITE Bar-B-Q. That was in October, and my father and mother-in-law went to the Moonlite a couple of weeks later and bought some mutton and brought it on ice all the way from Owensboro, KY to Atlanta, GA. During my long pregnancy we came up to KY twice to see relatives, and our frist stop was to the Moonlite, and then twice my in-laws brought down Moonlite Bar-B-Q to me. Well, my son was born, and he is now 34 years old, he was raised eating mutton at the Moonlite all of his life, as was our 33 year old daughter. We now live in St. Louis, MO and will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this Friday, May 7th. We are coming to Owensboro to eat at the Moonlite on Sunday for our anniversary and Mother's Day. PS. Several years ago there was a story in the Messenger Inquirer where Henderson was challenging saying that they had better Bar-B-Q than Owensboro. I fired off a quick email to the editor and told them who made the best Bar-B-Q and that was Moonlite! Keep up the good work, and we will see you all on Sunday the 9th! Feel free to you any or all of my comments for advertisement purposes. I will sing the praises of Moonlite Bar-B-Q to anyone who wants to hear them. Constance L. Kimbley

I had always heard of Moonlite BBQ and had never had the chance to eat there, my husband and I came to owensboro on our anniversary just to look at some old car's that he had seen on a car lot while he was delivering grain to the grainery a few day's before that, and I told him that someday I was going to Moonlite BBQ to eat, that I had always wanted to eat there rib's and BBQ that everone I had talked to said that they had the best rib's that you could find, so although he was under the weather he said well let's stop and eat. I was very very pleased although my husband couldn't eat but a few bite's I really enjoyed it my self. I will someday have to try it again, I will have to bring my two son's and let them see what real BBQ is all about. I really enjoyed my meal. Thank's Wanda Hesson

I really have enjoyed your site. My father passed when I was little. My entire family has tried to make his burgoo. Although ours is good it is not his. I am going to try your recipe and I appreciate you'all sharing it with us. Originally from Hopkinsville now in Nashville and I have to drive or make my own hickory smoked bar-b-q/ribs etc. Thanks again and may God Bless You! Feel free to email me if you wish or will see you in Owensboro one day. Murray Wall

My dad was from Owensboro, but after my grandparents died I seldom got back there. I made it there last summer (2003) and visited some cousins. I suggested that we go out to eat, and they recommended Moonlite Bar-B-Q. You place is WONDERFUL. Not only are all the varied bar-b-q'd meats great, but the vegetables and deserts are delicious. I will definitely make it to Ownesboro more often, both to see family, and especially to eat at Moonlite! Keep up the great work!

Hello, I'm emailing to compliment your food and restaurant. I was there on the evening of the 23rd of March. The food was outstanding and the service great! I've never eaten at a lot of Barb-B-Q places, but yours is the best I've eaten. The barbeque sauce is amazing and don't ever change one thing. I know that the next time or if I ever do get to get back to Owensboro, I will definitely be dining in with you. Thanks for the great meal, Shawn Andrew of London, formerly of Jamestown, KY.

I was down in Owensboro back in 1998 for business at the CMI/Alcoa facility in Hicksville. A friend of mine took me to the Moonlite for lunch one day and I was hooked! My dad grew up in Paducah and moved to Detroit just after WW2. I am a Yankee/Hillbilly and proud of my Kentucky roots. Next to Starne's in Paducah the Moonlite is tops in my book!

I had the pleasure of eating at your inn last year during the USSSA baseball tournament. We had unfortunatly waited toward the middle of the week to eat there, but still we had to visit one last time before we left. This cause for what I can only describe as a very content, but uncomfortable trip home to Alabama. But all I can hope for in the future is that we will find our way back there sometime soon. For even up till now my wife and I still on occation talk about our visit to your buffet. Until then all I can say is Good Luck and God Bless......Mike Rouse

Prior to retireing to South Carolina we entertained at our hoe for over 20 years with crowds of friends ranging from 100 to over 500 in later years. We always served Burgoo made by a local caterer BUT upon moving to the Hilton Head area we wanted to keep the tradition going on a smaller scale and startee ordering Moon Lite Burgoo and found it to be the best we ever served (or enjoyed). Only regret is that it took us too long to discover the great taste and the convenience of ordering from Moonlite. Thanks for helping us keep the tradition alive in South Carolina.

You have the best bar-b-que around. I know of several people here across the river that travel to O-boro for special occasions. In fact, this New Years Eve we plan to come to visit you. I'm from Beaver Dam and have been coming to your establishment for years. I've told so many people about your food and have got them started going. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great and prosperous New Year.
God bless you all,

I grew up in Owensboro and do miss the bar-b-Q. I'm beginning to think I'm the only one out here that knows anything about "how to make great bar-b-q" and no one has ever heard or tasted Burgoo. Can we please get a store out here. By the way, I'm bringing my Fiancee home over Christmas and we will be stopping by. She's going to flip when we get into the parking lot!

Grew up in Owensboro but have not lived there in 32 years now.....but every time I get back that way to visit family I always stop in and eat and of course take some cans or even a gallon or two of Burgoo home, and to my sisters who live in Washington and Florida who don't get the chance to get to Owensboro, well.....of course I am a nice sister and always get them something from you folks to send each Christmas, and year after year....they exclaim ...there just isn't anything better for Christmas than mutton and burgoo. Folks...yea you the one reading this right now, that hasn't tried the mutton and burgoo yet from Moonlite Inn in Owensboro, Ky....don't try it if you don't want to get totally hooked on this great food.....there just isn't anything better ...and no place that can compare.
be nice to yourself and your family....go on...buy some mutton or burgoo....Merry Christmas all....and to all a good night.....12-08-03.

I grew up in McLean County, KY, neighbor to Daviess County. Often I think of the times my Granddad on my mother's side would take the entire family out to eat at Moonlite. It was a good opportunity to try and have the entire family out to eat. Just the ring of a stout plate of mutton and a bowl of burgoo eat at my heart. I remember fondly the days that my Granddad Wiggins would start early in the morning with my Grandmama and the "big black kettle" starting the yearly burgoo brew. It would always be made in the fall so we could eat on it all winter long. Truth be told it didn't last long. From the sounds of it, me and the rest of my mother's side of the family will be dining there around the Christmas Holiday. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!

It has been almost 7 years since I've last vistited moonlite, I was so impressed and over the years always yearn to return. On my current job, I mentioned KY, and a wonderful place for b-bque-moonlite, and wondered was it still there, interesting enough, my co-worker logged immediately into your web site and told me with great enthusiasm he too loves moonlite and orders from you often. I am so glad to know you have expanded among the years and are well known across the nation. As they say, first impressions are everlasting, and I plan on planning a trip with my family just to enjoy eating there again this summer. When I was a child, in the early to mid-50's, we lived on Bosley Rd., just up Parrish Ave. from the restaraunt. My parents and I used to eat there at least once a week; sometimes more. My Dad knew the man who ran the pits, and loved the ribs.
Years later, in '64, I was married and my new wife, and I, spent a brief honeymoon in Owensboro. Of course, we had to come to the Moonlite. Now, almost 40 years later, I still miss the ribs and burgoo. No one in Texas seems to have ever heard of burgoo; they seem to think it might be some kind of gumbo. I tell them that it's "Kentucky gumbo." I didn't know you all canned it. I plan on buying a case as soon as I can.

Your Restaurant is absolutely the finest place that I have ever had the pleasure of eating at! I've eaten there twice, and I am frustrated that Owensboro is so far from Alliance.
I hope that your family are able to continue to operate your Restaurant, as I hope to take my family down there one day. I've had to work at our Hopkinsville, KY Facility a few times this year, so driving up to Owensboro isn't a big deal, but I need a little more time to make it from Northeast Ohio!
Keep up the excellent work!

I would like to say that your Bar-B-Q is the best that I have ever had. It all started about 4 yrs ago when myself and some friends took a motorcycle ride from Salem to Moonlite because we have heard so much about it, this is about a 90 mile motorcycle ride for us one way. To make a long story short we always try to get a bunch of people together for a ride to your store every Memorial Day weekend depending on which ever day the weather is best. Thank you for the excellent Bar-B-Q.

Thanks for providing consistently great food that makes those of us that know Moonlite turn up our noses at other barbeque!

I am from Belize in Central America. Our country is famous for good tropical dish. I decided to explore the website about sauce. One of my hobby is cooking on weekends and cook for the family and friends. After eating I am always eagar to hear comment about the food. I believe tasty food enjoyed is the most gratifying comments a cook loves to hear.

While it's great to have access to your wonderful BBQ via phone, online, and now in Wal-Mart stores, it sure would be nice to see the Moonlite expand. After reading in Stern's ROADFOOD book about the great BBQ at Moonlite, we dropped in for the first time about 8 years ago. Well, 8 years later and a hundred or so visits under(?)our belt we are ready to announce our thoughts . We moved to Southern Indiana to be closer to our kids and grandkids in 2000, At least that's what we told them !! In reality, we moved from SoCal to this area to be close to the MOONLITE, the family is a bonus !! We enjoy the casual approach to the buffet and the friendly chatter between patrons as we move along down the line. Now if I could only get the "Fast Time-Slow Time" thing down, we could time our visits a bit better. Keep up the good work, and keep making that Blackberry Cobbler too !

It was probably one of the best places we have EVER eaten for real, southern homecooking. (The mac n cheese was awesome!)The selection of side items and BarBQue were unbelievable! Greetings Master Chefs of the BBQ,
My father, brothers and I spent the past weekend in Owesboro at the Motorsports festival where we were treated to the best barebecue I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Our hosts, Jeff Jones (the executive director of the Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History) and his lovely wife Nancy, told us that under no circumstances were we to leave the city without tasting Moonlight Bar-B-Q. I had the chopped mutton, the country ham, the cornbread, the 'nana puddin' and the burgoo and I must say again that it is the best I have ever had. I would have to say that quite possibly the highlight to the glorious buffet, though, was the mac&cheese. It has long been a running joke in my family that restaurants shouldn't even bother making mac&cheese because you can't taste it anyway. Until last Saturday I had never found a restaurant mac&cheese that could top the box variety. I could not find a single item on the buffet that was not the best I've had, literally, and I tried them all.
My wife is jealous that she didn't get a chance to have any so, unless I plan another 10-hour drive, I had better check out your mail order page.
Not for my own selfish reasons though, just to keep peace in the family.
Cheers and you WILL see me again!
...Brad

My sincere gratitude to your establishment for producing the absolutely finest barbecue I have ever tasted. I have eaten many times in your restaurant, and my family traditionally purchases lots of your ware every year for the 4th of July. I am a graduate student at Western Kentucky University, and I have brought students from WKU up the Natcher Parkway to Owensboro several times so that they can experience Moonlite for themselves. Once, I brought a carload of international students (2 Icelandic and one Nepali) to Moonlite, and we had a great time! I was also there with a group when President Clinton visited in 2000. I am planning yet another trip this summer or fall for several Pakistani friends I have made here at Western. To the Bosley family, keep up the excellent work you all do. Moonlite is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited to know I can order Moonlite Barbeque online. I am originally from Rockport, IN, but now live in Indianapolis. I am home visiting for Christmas and my mother told me I could order online. I got so excited that I had to place an order immediately. Every time I come home to visit, we try to visit your restaurant. I love the chopped mutton and burgoo. I tell my friends all the time how good your food is. They have no idea what I'm talking about. I will have to take some of the burgoo in to work and have them try it. Thanks again. Now I'll be able to order chopped mutton and burgoo whenever I want. HOW WONDERFUL! I grew up in Owensboro from birth to 13 years till we moved south in 1978. I even lived on McFarland Ave all that time, That close to Moonlight. I remember the paper plates stapled together when you got take out. Everytime we went back up to visit relatives my Aunt always had mutton and burgoo waiting for us when we arrived, mmmm mmm mmm. We always looked forward to that. You never know what you have till its absent in your life. I love being able to purchase your products and still get that great Moonlight flavor sent to my doorstep. I haven't been to visit since 1984 but one day I'll bring my family there and it will be a guaranteed stop. Being in the military I ran across a person who has a sister in Henderson and he never once heard of Moonlight. Well I told him about it and when he went to vist he said he ate till he hurt. Why don't you give weights, volumes and clearer descriptionsin your on-line catalog? I was all set to buy country ham & some sorghum syrup but you don't say how much ham for $9.20 or how it is packed. How much (by volume) sorghum am I getting for $2.79 and is it pure sorghum or cut with something?

Dear Bosley family! I sure could use some Moonlite Inn BBQ Sauce for bbq pork butt, beef brisket & whole hog in Napa!
The grand opening of Copia, the new American Center for Food, Wine & the Arts, will feature barbecue brisket, whole hog and pork butt. A selection of barbecue sauces that represent the best in America will complement the meat.
Over 15,000 guests are expected on the weekend of November 17-18 in Napa Valley, California. As you know, there are over a thousand commercially available American barbecue sauces. I've chosen your sauce to be among a select group featured in Napa, because I like it and because it deserves to be introduced to the guests at this historic event.
If you are able and willing to donate a case of your sauce, please plan now to ship it in time to arrive in Napa by Monday, November 12, and no later than Wednesday, November 14. Shipping instructions and a reply form follow this message.
Thanks, Bosley family, for the important role you play in American barbecue business and culture. I will appreciate your help with this project.
Sincerely,

I tell you...This place is the bomb when it comes to old fashioned barbeque. I grew up in Waverly Ky just down the road from Peak Brothers Barbeque and I can tell you that these places are the only people in the world who can cook....next to my dad. I have two young children and my wife and I have already started them on the Moonlite tradition. I have live in Paducah.Murray,Des Moines IA,Moline Il. and traveled to alot more.....NO ONE can even come close to you guys.....KEEP ON COOKIN'!!!!!!

I was born near Owensboro in 1936 and was spoiled at a very early age on the very best flavored and smoked mutton on the planet. Whereever I go the comparison pales to the magic you can perform with a few old goats. (the meat, not the owners )
I have wished many times to enjoy the crunchy end pieces and dreamed of the day I could order on-line. Imagine my delight when coming across the USA Today mention including your phone number and then was excited to be given your web site. My order accompanies this note. Hurry. It must give great pride to know so many people have come to identify the Moonlite with the very best features of Kentucky. ( do you miss the drive-in? )
All the best for many more decades of scrumptious mutton and burgoo. Jim Cecil

I am an Owensboro native and moved to Colorado last year. Boy what I would do for some chopped mutton and burgoo right now. My family and I love Colorado but they don't have any idea what real Bar-b-que is. I plan to mail order some things for Christmas - I know it won't be the same as getting in that wonderful buffet line and the smell - oh the smells. Thank you Moonlight for some wonderful memories!

Stumbled upon your site while doing some invetigative work. I must say that it's very well done. There is nothing better tan "GOOD" Bar-B-Q and the next trip that my wife and I make to Athens, Alabama to visit relatives we will make it a point to detour by Owensboro for some of your Bar-B-Q. Just reading all of the other peoples comments makes me want to take off your way tonight!

There is no doubt about it. Moonlite BBQ is the best there is and when I am there visiting family your restaurant is the first place I want to go.

Moonlite is the absolute BEST place I have ever eaten. I married an
O'bo girl in 1980 and wound up moving there & living there for 2
years. My wife brought me to the Moonlite & I fell in love with the
place! Oh, those Thursday night buffets! Still a bargain, from what I see
here. We wound up here in NJ, and I missed that great Bar-B-Q so bad I
couldn't stand it. So until we split up in '89, we would go back to O'bo
to visit here family and we would hit the Moonlite! You just CAN'T get
real Bar-B-Q up here at all, and FORGET about mutton & burgoo! But in
the mid-80's my soon to be ex mail ordered some Moonlie for my b-day &
surprised me! And now I found this site so I will be indulging again,
definitely getting some cans of that awesome burgoo! Kudos and may the
Moonlite live forever!

My reasons for posting here are a bit different from most. I've not been
to Owensboro, but am writing a community guide for Owensboro for a local
publishing company based in the Columbia, S.C., area. While seeking
information on your community I ran across your site. Since I'm a lifelong
fan of good Bar-B-Q as well as a professional writer I had to stop in when
I ran across your site. Pretty impressive, even though you seem to be
refurbishing it a bit just noes my mouth water, just browsing
through your recipes. Might do some mail-ordering soon! In the meantime,
I'm still seeking a little information that might help someone who needs
to move to Owensboro. You know the stuff I mean: who and where to call to
get the power turned on, the telephone, cable-TV service, and so on. Also
the local radio and TV affiliates. Some of this information is on
www.owensboro.com, but some of it seems to be missing. It's November 6,
one day before Election Day. If anyone reading this in just the next few
days can supply me with any of this information, I'd greatly appreciate
it; and if I chance to visit Owensboro I'm definitely stopping by! Steven

My wife and I first ate at Moonlite in 1997. We were living about 1 1/2
hours away at that time but, from the first time we went, we would often
travel to Owensboro JUST TO EAT AT MOONLITE! (The only thing we did regret
about having to travel so far was that it took SO LONG between the time we
left our home and the time we finally got to enjoy the bbq. But, now that
we live in Evansville, we don't have to suffer near as long.
) The food has always been great and the service is unbeatable. I can't
really single out just one food item to compliment because EVERYTHING is
delicious. (although I really do love the chocolate-pecan pie...YUMMY!!)
Every waitress we've ever had has been very friendly and attentive. One
thing I really like is how attentive the waitresses are concerning my
drink...I drink a lot when I eat and the waitress usually has our glass
re-filled after just a couple drinks of pop. The great service combined
with the great food ALWAYS makes for a very pleasurable dining experience
for us. We will definitely be back. Very satisfied customers, Alan and

BARBEQUE! Everyone down here thinks that Texas make the best BBQ in the

WOW.........All I ever hear out here in the Pacific Northwest is MOONLITE
BBQ. Ever since my daughter married Shane from Owensboro that's all he
talks about. Well, I finally got the chance to eat some real BBQ last
weekend. I had the opportunity to travel to Nashville and took the time to
drive up to Owensboro to meet "The Family" and have some
Moonlite BBQ. It was FANTASTIC!!! I'm looking forward to ordering from the
internet and having a Moonlite BBQ night at our home here in Bellingham,

I grew up in O'boro and worked at Moonlite for several years during my
high school days until I joined the Air force. Now I'm married to a woman
from Oklahoma and each time we come home she can't wait to eat at
Moonlite. I'm now stationed in North Carolina and cant find good Bar-B-Q
anywhere out here. When my parents come to visit they always bring me a
cooler full of Moonlite Burgoo and chopped pork and mutton. And as much as
I hate too, I do share with the guys and gals at the base. Hey Pat, Jane,
Fred, ever thought of moving to N.C., they need some help when it comes to
Bar-B-Q....hahaha Keep up the good work and cant wait to taste your

how to get to Owensboro so they could try out the Moonlite for themselves.

Hi, I was raised in Owensboro, and lived there for 34 years until I moved
to Kissimmee, Florida 13 years ago. My Dad and I would stop on the way
home to pick up a takeout order of the best Bar-B-Que around. My Mother
still sends me Bar-B-Que for a X-Mas present. About 5 years ago, my
brother in law and a few friends, were going to the Bahamas for lunch, as
my brother in law was a pilot for a huge construction co here in Florida.
He asked where I would like to go for lunch if I could go anywhere I
wanted to go. I told him about Moonlite. Well, the trip was on. In about 2
hours, we arrived in Owensboro, hopped a cab, and had one of the best
lunches I have ever had at Moonlite. Needless to say, we loaded up on
packaged goods , and we were on our way. I guess this was the most
expensive lunch I have ever had, but, well worth it. I will be placing an
order via internet. Thank You, Sincerely yours, Joe Alvey

My hometown is Owensboro, Ky. I've been going to the Moonlight since I was
a kid. I introduced my wife of 3 and a half years to Moonlight and now,
when we head to Ky, all she talks about is hitting the buffet as soon as
we get into town. The food is great - plenty of it too. The mutton is the
best. And the cornbread - how much butter do you put in there....Soooooo
good. I recommend the Moonlight to everyone who goes that way - even if
it's an hour or two out of their way. Keep up the great work - and keep
that mutton coming. Thanx Tony Scherm

Back in the old days, when I was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, we required
constant flight training to stay combat ready. We also required food to
keep from getting hungry. Owensboro had two things that helped us, an
airport and Moonlite BBQ. Unfortunately some misinformed, bitter people
got the Owensboro area put off limits. Now that I am retired from the
Army, they can't stop me from driving up. I brought my wife to Moonlite
BBQ for the first time Labor Day weekend. It was as good as I remember it.
